The jeweled tones of autumn magnify the geological beauty of the canyon. The gold, bronze and copper leaves along the route dominate the visual landscape on each of our Fall Color Tours, one rail at a time. It is a season when the wildlife, including deer, elk, Javelina and antelope, become more active and visible as the mercury begins its yearly dip.
The ever popular Ales on Rails Festival heightens weekends in October. The Verde Canyon Railroad’s own version of Oktoberfest features a variety of beers and ales from throughout the world coupled with an alpine-inspired menu and music…oompah-pah.
We celebrate Grandparents’ Day with a salute and a hug for the loved ones who have given us such strong legacies. This is a time to bond with those that time has not allowed and renew kinships lest they be gone forever.
Haunted Halloween Express is a favorite at the Verde Canyon Railroad as ghouls, ghosts and goblins meander through the aisles of our coaches on our way to the ghost ranch of Perkinsville and back. Witches, clowns and devils usually offer more treats than tricks, however.
"Hop aboard the Ales on Rails train ride for scenery ablaze in gold, copper and bronze. Jump-start your ride with brats and beer, then raise a glass to the jewel-toned foliage of mulberry and oak set among the canyon walls."
