In the glory days of the “iron horse,” the train station was typically the bustling hub of every small town across the West. Those times may have passed, but the Verde Canyon Railroad is doing its part to ensure that they are not forgotten.

An essential part of the Verde Canyon Railroad journey is a pleasurable beginning at the Railroad’s Southwestern-style depot and museum located in Clarkdale, just 25 minutes from Sedona. Open daily, the depot is home to the Copper Spike Café and Boxcar Gift Store. A stroll down the sidewalk bordering the outdoor dining area leads to the John Bell Museum.

The last of three depots to be constructed on this site, the adobe-style structure and mature grounds set the relaxed pace for the leisurely rail travel that awaits passengers.

"The four-hour round trip in both closed and open cars allowed us a view of desert brush, forest, streams, high cliffs, and wildlife. A Bald Eagle glorified our trip in close range, probably from a nest we had seen earlier."
