In the early 1900s, the Perkins sold slaughtered beef to the soaring mine population of Jerome.
When the Santa Fe Railway built the Clarkdale to Drake standard-gauge line through the Perkins Ranch in 1912, the little depot constructed near ranch headquarters was named "Perkinsville.” Cattle were then shipped from the ranch.
