All who board the Haunted Halloween Express on Sunday, October 31st are swept into a vortex of spine-tingling fun. Young and old alike are gleefully riveted by spooky tales shared by train staff and passengers.

It’s a celebration of tricks and treats for everyone. With goodies and ghost stories, there will be great surprises aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad’s Haunted Halloween Train. This costume-filled holiday gives each of us the chance to relive our childhood through the eyes of our own children, as well as, the children who knock on our door that night.  When aboard the Verde Canyon Railroad, passengers have the opportunity to dress from head to toe in hopes of winning the costume contest, while they spot the shadows and shapes that are cast along the canyon walls, and listen to the eerie sounds of nature by day or night.

The costume contest…an annual tradition…also gives employees the chance to join in the fun; each sports a costume to set the tone for a thrill-filled excursion.  During the return journey at dusk, the canyon walls and rock formations allow light to move in and out for the perfect touch of scary shadows.  A chill in the air, and a hooting owl…what more could passengers want on this, the spookiest eve of the year?

A wart-nosed rail-witch or a fairy princess will be on the lookout for the scariest, funniest and many more costume categories worn by kids and adults, for which she’ll award creepy prizes. Ghoulish passengers of every sort enjoy munching on Halloween treats.  The Bride of Frankenstein may be telling tales of the canyon’s history and folklore, conjuring up images of the past.  The low whistling winds are perhaps ghostly whispers of ancient Sinagua Indian cliff-dwellers or of miners’ spirits restlessly roaming between the fallen timbers of Jerome’s abandoned copper mine shafts.

Leave the confines of city life in favor of high-spirited fun and an unforgettable journey around every bend and over every bridge as the Verde Canyon Railroad winds through the red-rock canyon in autumnal brilliance.  October at Verde Canyon Railroad is famous for Fall Colors, Ales on Rails and Haunted Halloween!
