People come to Sedona all year round for vacations and the Winter Season is no exception! Some people actually prefer Sedona in the Winter, because there tends to be less crowds, cheaper prices, and the scenery gets arguably more breathtaking. Just imagine the already gorgeous red rocks blanketed in a light layer of white snow… enough said. There are few places in this world more picturesque than Sedona and the Winter can add an additional layer of mystique and solace to this already majestic environment.
Aside from the scenery, Sedona’s Verde Valley in the Winter still begs to be climbed, hiked, and explored like the rest of the year and the temperatures during the day (mid 50’s to 60’s) is perfect for activity. Luckily, you can still head out on the Verde Canyon Railroad, enjoy some of the Sedona area’s famous hikes like the West Fork of Oak Creek or the Airport Loop Trails. If you feel like checking out something lesser know, but still amazing, head over to Cow Pies Trail, off Schnelby Hill Rd for some out-of-this-world slickrock formations set up in concentric circles that look like, (you guessed it…) cow pies. Or if you’re in to Winter sports, remember there’s skiing and real Winter conditions just up the road near Flagstaff.
Sedona in December
It’s not hard to find a long list of things to do in Sedona in December, but what makes Sedona unique is that you can find an activity that’s much more likely to match your exact level of Christmas Cheer. From more Earth focused events like the Festival of the Trees and Festival of Lights to the traditional Holiday Central Sedona with shopping, Santa Claus and Holiday displays to Verde Canyon Railroad’s own unique invitation to give you a “Reprieve” from the modern pandemonium of the Christmas Season. A chance to relax and get away from the constant advertising and 24/7 internet marketing invasions to a simpler time. A place where you can get back to basics and really appreciate the essentials: friends, family, and real natural beauty on a relaxing trip up historic Verde Canyon.
