In the glory days of the iron horse, the train station was typically the bustling hub of every small town across America.
Those times may have passed but Verde Canyon Railroad is doing its part to ensure that they are not forgotten.
An essential part of the Verde Canyon Railroad journey is time at the depot prior to departure. Open daily, the depot is home to Boxcar Gift Store, Copper Spike Cafe, Whistle Stop @ Milepost 38 and John Bell Museum.
Shopping at the Boxcar Gift Store has never been more pleasurable. The quality selection of home décor, souvenirs and clothing representing the Railroad, Canyon and Southwest is irresistible. The Store also celebrates the artistry of local and regional artists in jewelry, sculpture, books, photography, CDs and DVDs.
Saunter across the outdoor patio to visit the Whistle Stop @ Milepost 38 where you can purchase private label wines, brews and specialty foods.
The Copper Spike Cafe has daily specials associated with the season along with their varied menu of Southwestern favorites. They specialize in hot and cold entrees for everyone, from the light eater to those with heartier appetites.
A stroll down the sidewalk bordering the outdoor dining area leads to the John Bell Museum, a renovated boxcar housing Verde Canyon Railroad history and memorabilia which spans more than a century. The depot and museum are open daily.
