Wine Tasting Tours
As a result of overwhelming enthusiasm for Arizona wines, the Verde Canyon Railroad will bring its famed “Grape Train Escape” out of retirement in the summer of 2018. This tribute to great wines of the Grand Canyon State will be held on select Saturdays. June 16, 7, 21, July 14 and August 4 Grapes Trains will depart the depot at 1:00 p.m. in the afternoon. On July 28 the train will leave the station at 5:30 p.m. for a starlight experience.
June 16, July 7, July 21 and August 4 will feature wines from Arizona Stronghold.
“The Verde Valley has quickly become one of the premier wine regions of the west,” said Teresa Propeck, director of marketing. “It’s a draw to our region, so what better way to showcase Arizona wines than with the backdrop of amazing Arizona scenery by rail? These events are very exclusive since each excursion will only accommodate 160 passengers.”
While aboard the “Grape Train Escape,” passengers will be served a sampling of wines from select Verde Valley wineries. Guests also will enjoy specialty cheeses and hors d’oeuvres chosen to complement the featured wines. Viogniers from each winery will be aboard to discuss the terroir and the techniques of wine-making.
The ticket price for this evening excursion is $99.00; proof of age may be requested.
The Grape Train Escape features exclusive first-class accommodations, lavishing passengers with luxurious style and attentive beverage service right to your seat. Adjoining open-air cars share the lush riparian scenery of summer: canopies of green Cottonwoods , moody monsoon afternoons and deep crimson cliffs.
